'Doodle FAQ How
much exercise does a Labradoodle require? A. Labradoodles vary
in their need for exercise based on their size. A mini typically will be
happy with a minimal amount of exercise daily such as a walk around the
block, or even just time to chase a ball and romp about in the backyard
when time is tight. At the same time, minis are more than ready and able
to go with you on family outings such as bike rides and hikes.
Mediums require approximately 20 to 30 minutes of exercise daily. Again, a vigorous game of fetch in the back yard and a walk around the block will suffice on days when time is at a premium. Mediums love to participate in family outdoor events such as camping, swimming and hiking. Standards require the most exercise of all Labradoodles. Standards need to have a good 45 minutes of vigorous activity every day. Standards love to run and stretch their legs as well as their minds and participate in a variety of outdoor activities. Even when the weather is bad, your Standard will need to be taken out for a good romp. Labradoodles, like any other breed of dog need regular physical activity and play time. Without this, destructive behaviour such as chewing quickly develops. All sizes of Labradoodles are highly intelligent and benefit from participating in obedience or agility and these activities are excellent components of a daily exercise program. Q. How big will my Labradoodle be? A. Labradoodles come
in 3 sizes with a range in each: Minis: These dogs
are the epitome of the saying “great things come in small packages”.
Minis range from 14” to 16” and will weigh between 15 and 25 pounds.
Don’t let their small size fool you, they have lots of energy and
ability to keep up with the larger sizes of Doodles and are well able to
keep up with family outdoor adventures. Their small size makes them
ideal for the urban family and are ideal for those families with young
children. Mediums: Mediums are the perfect “medium” between the minis and standards and range from 17” to 20” and 30 to 45 pounds. Mediums are a great addition to the family that is looking for a dog that will keep up with them in all their outdoor activities as well as fit comfortably into an urban environment. Mediums are suitable for families with all ages of children. Standards: Standards
are the largest of the Labradoodle family and range from 21” to 24”
Q. How much grooming will my Labradoodle require? A. Whipple Tree Labradoodles all have fleece coats which are the easiest to maintain. Your Labradoodle should be brushed weekly to keep him free of mats. Curlier fleece coats should be brushed twice per week to keep them soft and free of mats. Nails should be trimmed once per month. A trip to the groomers for a trim is usually needed every 3 to 4 months. Labradoodles’ ears need to have the hair that grows in them plucked and that is easiest to have done by your groomer. Q. Will my Labradoodle shed? Are Labradoodles hypoallergenic? A. Whipple Tree Labradoodles are true Australian multi-generational Labradoodles and do not shed. Puppies will “blow” their coats at approximately 8 months of age. At this time a puppy will lose his puppy coat and his adult coat will come in. It is essential to brush your puppy regularly at this time to remove the dead puppy coat. The puppy will not shed this coat but it will come out when you brush him. Alternatively, you may take your puppy to be groomed and have his puppy coat buzzed off and allow the adult coat to grow in. No Labradoodle is 100% hypoallergenic, however, most allergy sufferers are able to tolerate a Labradoodle with no ill effects. We have sold puppies to allergy sufferers without a reaction occurring to date. Some individuals are allergic to the saliva a dog produces and no breed of dog, not even the incredible Labradoodle is hypoallergenic for that problem. We invite you to visit us and spend some time with our Labradoodles to ensure that you will not have a reaction to our dogs. Q. Are Labradoodles indoor or outdoor dogs? A. Labradoodles do not shed and are allergy friendly because they only have one coat. By virtue of this, Labradoodles do not have the same protection from the elements that double-coated breeds have. Labradoodles are able to be outside in a Canadian winter for periods of time but not for an entire day and they definitely need to sleep inside the house. Labradoodles are highly social, interactive companion dogs and would not be happy to be in a situation where they did not live inside and interact with their family on a regular basis in any event. Q. Are Labradoodles good with children and other pets? A. Labradoodles LOVE children! Virtually all our puppies go to homes with children in them. Labradoodles are gentle and fun loving and children gravitate to them just as the Labradoodles are drawn to children. Labradoodles get along well with other pets such as cats, birds and other dogs. Our puppies are well socialized when they go home with you in terms of other people and pets as we have multiple cats and horses living with us as well as a variety of children of various ages that the puppies are exposed to. Q. What type of Labradoodles does Whipple Tree sell? A. Whipple Tree Labradoodles only sells authentic Australian multi-generational Labradoodles.
